March 19, 2020

Hello Mountain View students and parents! This is just a quick note to let everyone know that Ms. Shaw and I are doing well! We are beginning to collect ideas on how to continue to get some form of movement while we are away from school. REMEMBER...all children should aim to get 60 minutes of activity in a day. I look forward to seeing how creative you can be as you try to reach that goal!

Stay safe...and WASH YOUR HANDS!

Welcome to PE! I hope everyone had a fun and safe summer. I am looking forward to great new school year!

Fitness Testing
All 4th and 5th grade classes will do a pre-test and post-test in the following 4 areas of fitness: Upper body strength and endurance (push ups), abdominal strength and endurance (curl up), flexibility (backsaver test), and aerobic capacity (PACER test).  Once the pre-test scores are compiled I will begin to plan my teaching around what areas need the most improvement. Pre-testing will begin shortly after the school year has begun. I plan to be finished with pre-tests by mid October.

Our 4th and 5th graders continue to work hard on their push-ups in PE. Our goal is to have an overall pass rate of all 4th and 5th graders of 85%. Currently we are at about 80%. While we work on push-ups in PE class, some students will need to work extra at home to achieve a passing score. This video will give you ideas on how you can help your child.

We have been doing speed stacking in PE. Speed stacking is an activity where both hands are being used to stack and unstack cups. Speed stacking increases a person's ambidexterity and bilateral coordination. Click here to see what speed stacking is all about!

Shoe Tying Made Easy

Is your child frustrated with learning how to tie their shoes? Are "bunny ears" too complicated? Watch this video and see if this method works better for your child!
